Beyond "Pahlawan Perempuan" Indonesian Colonial History From A Gender Perspective with Dr. Kirsten Maria Johanna Kamphuis

The History Science Study Program of Faculty of Social Science UNY has held a Guest Lecture with the theme of Women's History and Indonesian Colonial History as well as the closing of the 2021/2022 even semester lectures on Saturday 11 June 2022 entitled Beyond "Pahlawan Perempuan" Indonesian Colonial History From A Gender Perspective with Dr. Kirsten Maria Johanna Kamphuis from the University of Munster, Germany. As the moderator of the event was Muhammad Yuanda Zara, Ph.D. as a lecturer in the course of colonial Indonesian history.

The event was opened by Ita Mutiara Dewi, M. Si. as a lecturer of Women's History. It continued with lecture by Dr. Kirsten Kamphuis. The material discussed about RA Kartini as an icon of women's emancipation and education in Indonesia, the definition of a national hero and 15 of 190 national heroes are women. The lecture then discusses RR Moerjan as one of the women who has contributed to the development of Indonesian education but her name is not very popular because she is not included in the category of national hero in Indonesia.

Afterthat, there was a question and answer session. There were many questions and responds emerged. Luluk Fuadah, one of the participants, stated that she had just heard the name RR Moerjan. Response from HY Agus Murdyastomo, M. Hum regarding the need to explore various primary sources to find out women's figures and organizations and their role in Indonesia.

According to Dr. Kirsten Kamphuis, there were quite a lot of women who played roles in various fields in the colonial period which were less popular and did not fall into the category of national heroes, primary source excavation could be done through data in ANRI as well as regional and local archives. The event ran smoothly within 2 hours, from 14.00 to 16.00 WIB with quite a lot of participants, namely a number of 107 people
